Nestled within the Woodlands Swimming Complex and located just a stone’s throw away from Woodlands and Marsiling MRT stations, the Halal-certified Citrus by the Pool is an idyllic resort-like bistro for lunch and dinner.

The 70-seat cafe, which boasts retro-inspired furnishings indoors, is known for its delicious Western and Asian fusion dishes at affordable prices.

Start with its thick and creamy Homemade Pumpkin Soup that is, well, redolent of home, Sweet Potato Fries that come with two dipping sauces (choose from wasabi mayo, curry mayo, salted egg and spicy mayo) or Chilli Chicken Fries that come with a generous topping of chilli and minced chicken.

Next, choose from its mains. I recommend the beautifully-plated Seafood Risotto that has just the right balance of rice and seafood (fresh squid, scallops, mussels and prawns that taste of the sea) and comes with a creamy sauce that’s chock full of flavour.

The Tom Yum Seafood Pasta with silky smooth linguine and a tom yum base with coconut milk that’s evocative of laksa. Prefer something heartier? Citrus’ Fried Chicken and Waffles are generously portioned. Crispy waffles with a shot of maple syrup complement the fried chicken perfectly.

For dessert, end the meal with a most satisfying Molten Chocolate Lava Cake that boasts a rich, runny chocolatey sauce when cut into. The best part? It comes in an upsized version paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and fresh cut strawberries and bananas.
